Herbert Alston Hill was born in Thomaston, Alabama, to Henry and Dessie Mae Hill, but resided for most of his life in Pensacola, Florida. He was an active member of Plainview Baptist Church. Herbert retired as Branch Manager of Motion Industries in 1995 after 38 years of dedicated service. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his champion dogs Bill and Bill Bill. But he especially loved the company of family and close friends and, most of all, the time he spent playing with his grandchildren and later with his great-grandchildren.
Herbert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 66 years, Hazel Hill, his three sons Herbert and his wife Dona, Larry and his wife Diane, and Len, grandson Bobby and wife Pam, granddaughters Meredith and Sierra and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Emma and Grady. He is also survived by two brothers, Wayne Hill and Lee Hill and two sisters, Barbara Miller and Daphne Hare.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center, the West Florida Hospital and Covenant Hospice, as well as the staff at Broadview ALF, for all that they do and how much they care.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, from 11 AM until the service begins at noon at Plainview Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Flannigan officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Hill, Joe Andrews, Kevin Covalt, Clarence Reeder, Elijah Ward and Reese Whitson. Arrangements under the direction of Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL.
