Hiram Sidney Long

Hiram Sidney 'Sid' Long Jr, 84 of Pensacola, FL passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born June 3, 1930 in Gainesville, Ga to the late Hiram S. Long Sr. and Ollie Long. Married Mary Sue Crawford of Commerce, Ga. on June 13, 1954. Proudly served in the U.S.Navy during the Korean Conflict After his military duty attended Georgia Tech and graduated class of '56 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Employed with Chemstrand/Monsanto and retired in 1985 after 29 years of dedicated employment. Sid is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Sue Long; Four children, Joe Long, Greg (Gonca) Long, Eric Long, Susie (Doug) Dawson; Eight grandchildren, Danny Long, Adam Long, Jessica Wallace, Eric Long, Miles Kennedy, Aaron Dawson, Yelda Long, Dilara Long; Three great grandchildren, Danielle Long, Alexander Long, Lorelei Long. Sid loved listening to and dancing to Dixieland Jazz, family get- togethers, and rebuilding engines, from airplane engines to racing lawn mower engines, which he also raced. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and the gang from the Flight Deck. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola his final flight to Barrancas National Cemetery with Navy Honors. Celebration will follow after burial with fond memories of Sid. "Save us a seat pop."
