1936-2019
Howard McKinley Thrash, Sr. of Pensacola, Florida passed away on January 29, 2019 at the age of 82 in West Florida Hospital's Hospice Care Center after a battle with Mesothelioma, a form of cancer. Howard was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on February 15, 1936. He moved to Pensacola in 1957 and went to work for Chemstrand, where he was a Chemical Operator for 36 years. Howard loved to golf, hunt, and fish, and was a master of all three. He golfed regularly with close friends, often three times a week, until about a year before his death. Howard was also a dedicated fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, even back when the team wasn't as top-notch as they are today.
Howard was preceded in death by his father and mother, four brothers, two sisters, his wife, Ella Smith Thrash, and several close friends. He is survived by one son and two stepsons: Howard McKinley Thrash Jr. and his wife Debbie, Dewayne Smith and his wife Ruth, and Darrell Smith. He is also survived by three sisters, several grandchildren and many other close relatives and friends.
Howard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and was kind and generous to everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, immediately followed by a service.
