James M. “Jim” Barbee, age 87 of Pensacola, died September 15, 2018 in Pensacola. Jim was born May 28, 1931 in Concord, NC to Relus Barbee and Iola Barbee. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Jim worked for many years as an audio visual specialist for the US Civil Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pensacola.
Jim had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed hiking with his wife LaVaughn and did so often at their cabin in North Carolina and out in the western United States. Jim was always the one to take photographs of family events. In his younger years, he was an avid tennis player and also played golf. He enjoyed taking his family out on their boat and taught his daughters to water ski. Jim was a member of Toastmasters International and received a certificate of achievement for exceptional professional accomplishment in Aerospace Audio-Visual Service in 1969 and received numerous other Information Film Producers of America awards and awards including an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science Award for Sound Production.
Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years LaVaughn D. Barbee; two daughters: Cindy and husband Anthony Ramirez and Nancy and husband Roger Crews; one grandson: Tony Ramirez and wife Whitney; two great granddaughters: Ava Ramirez and Ella Ramirez; one brother: Jerry Barbee and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Robert Barbee.
