Jane grew up in a small town in Kentucky, and her charismatic, energetic personality was quickly center stage. She grew up in the Methodist church, giving her heart to Jesus at an early age. She attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in English, and she was an avid reader and teacher throughout her life. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and after college, she taught briefly and was a stewardess for American Airlines for one year, a job she loved. It was during this time that she fell in love with New York City and Frank Sinatra's musical tribute.
Jane was the epitome of southern grace and elegance, but what made her really special was her open arms and open heart for people. She thoroughly enjoyed being a Kentucky Wildcat cheerleader, but she carried the role of cheerleader for so many throughout her entire life. She loved spending time with family and friends and intensely disliked being alone.
As an only child, she vowed to have 10 children. She met Jim on a blind date and they married in 1955. God blessed them with 5 children, their 5 spouses, 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and many more extended family who called her Mom and Granny. Over the years, Jane and Jim opened their home to well over a hundred people. Her generosity and desire to help others knew no bounds. She also had a heart for imprisoned people and was a regular visitor to prisons over the years.
A significant turning point occurred in the mid-1960s when she and Jim received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, an experience that radically shifted their primary focus of life for the family. The time she spent as a member of the community at the Church of the Redeemer in Houston, Texas was a highlight of her spiritual formation and growth. Music was one of her loves, and the worship among the family of God could be said to be a pinnacle of her life. She loved to write songs, and her song "Wind, Wind" has been sung far and wide. Her greatest passion was for all those she knew and loved to come to a personal relationship with Jesus. She wrote many poems and recently published a compilation of God stories titled "His Stories".
In short, Jane shined everywhere she went from the beginning of her life until her last hour!
