Jane Elizabeth Crooke, 90, of Cantonment, Florida, joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on September 1, 2026. Born April 10, 1936, in Pensacola, Florida, Jane was the baby of eight children born to Edward and Lillian Thompson. Through her working years, Jane devoted many years of steady work at Monsanto/Solutia in the bobbin room, carrying out her responsibilities with consistency.
A woman of deep faith, Jane was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola and a devoted, firm believer in the Lord. Her faith was not only expressed, but lived—expressed through a generous spirit, a kind heart, and a sincere attentiveness to others.
Jane’s gifts were evident in the care she brought to the things she loved. She was a phenomenal painter, able to replicate an image with watercolors in a way that reflected both patience and skill. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing with precision and taking care to line every seem perfectly. In her kitchen, she found another way to serve: as a baker who delighted in caring for others through food and baked goods, she freely shared with family, neighbors, and all who came to visit.
Family and community mattered greatly to Jane. She valued time spent with friends and loved ones above all. In everyday moments, her warmth was unmistakable, often pausing, even in passing encounters, to offer a thoughtful compliment to a stranger. In these simple acts, Jane left a lasting impression of goodness and generosity.
Jane is survived by her loving son, Willie "Duck" Milam; grandchildren, Michele Payne (Derrick) and Lindsey Maines (Garrett); great-grandchildren, Reagan Payne, Addy Payne, Caroline Payne, Mila Maines, Liam Maines and Luke Maines; sister, Edwina Johnson; a beloved family canine companion, Luna; and many longtime friends. She is preceded in passing by her parents; her siblings, Barbara, Frank, Betty, Carol and Hubert; a granddaughter, Katelyn Payne; her daughter-in-law, Debi Milam; and her precious dog, Roxy. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 10:00am.
