5/14/1943-5/2/2020
Jerry Dale Dawson, 76, completed his earthly sojourn at his home on May 2, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Merle Stanley Dawson; the mother of his children, Shirley Armstrong Dawson Gorum; a brother, Rayford Dawson; and sisters: Marie Keenum, Lynne Johnson and Ann Bolton. He leaves behind his loving wife, Donna Anderson Dawson; sisters: Shirley Meadows, Faye Sockwell, Carolyn Davis, Linda Smith, Kaye (Wyatt) Oliver and Terri Hardy; mother-in-law Dot Anderson and sisters-in-law: Linda Howell and husband Butch Hutto and Debbie Fernald; sons: Jerry (Kerianne) Dawson and Johnny Dawson; grandchildren: Taylor Dawson, Sydney Dawson, Anthony Dawson; sisters of Taylor and Sydney: Addie Benz, Kimberly Morse and Julia Morse; the mothers of his grandchildren: Terry Adams Benz and Shannon Fell and many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
As a child, Jerry worked with his siblings in the field of beautiful crops his dad planted. It has been said more than once that he was his mother’s favorite child. He would just laugh about that. While in high school, he played basketball and drove a school bus. He joined the U.S. Navy and became an aircraft electrician that would be his trade for life. He loved aircraft and became a pilot after leaving the Navy. His pride was his sons and grandchildren. He loved flying, boating, listening to music and action movies. Jerry loved this country and was so glad this is our home. In 1989, Jerry began a personal relationship with Christ and he had many years of great joy before he could focus on his health alone. He was always grateful to his wife, Donna, for being with him and taking care of him.
Donna would like to thank Hearts for Him for their support, her family for their patient support, especially her mother, Dot Anderson, who has given up time with her so she could be with Jerry; Jerry’s doctors and PAs, NP: Dr. Adam Tornosky, Dr. Henry Dohn, Dr. David Bear, Amanda Fields, Laura Bell, Dr. Patrick Rielly and Dr. Kristen Thomas.
The family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Vets and the Wounded Warrior Project.
