Jimmie Kirby, 81, passed away September 28, 2015. She was survived by her husband of 59 years, Vard Kirby; her daughters, Deborah Vanatta and Donna Gardner; son, Dr. Daniel Kirby; sons-in-law Gregory Vanatta and Mark Gardner; and daughter-in-law, Kelly Kirby; and grandchildren Jessica Vanatta, Lucas Vanatta, Austin Kirby, James Gardner, Alexandra Kirby, Adam Kirby, and Megan Gardner.
Jimmie was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi and attended Mississippi Southern University in Hattiesberg, Mississippi, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Education. As the wife of a military veteran, Jimmie resided in Morocco, Missouri, Alaska, and Florida. During this time, Jimmie taught as an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, finally retiring from the Escambia County School District in 1993. Jimmie was an active member of the national Alpha Delta Kappa educators sorority.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:00 am with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating.
