

She was the third child of eight by Carl and Nora Nelson. Born in Pensacola Florida, September 7th, 1934, Joan married John Ellena May 27th, 1954, and had 5 children. Joan served Escambia County as a bus driver for 27 years, retiring in 1996 after moving to Pace Florida to be close to her grandchildren. It was there that she was able to enjoy her favorite hobbies of gardening, bird watching, going to the beach to listen to the waves, and traveling to Tennessee with her family.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband John, two sons Ralph and Randy, brothers Carl and Bernard, sisters Beverly and Connie, and granddaughter Kayla Ellena.
She is survived by her three daughters Valerie Boyett (Randy), Darlene Cyr, Sandra Carboneau (Robert), stepson John Ellena (Sandra), grandchildren Derek Boyett, Brett Boyett (Kortney), Cristin Naquin, Cody Ellena, Brandon Ellena (Noel), brother Leonard Nelson (Louise), sister Dale Tucker and niece Dee Borce along with many other nieces and nephews. Meme loved dearly and was loved dearly.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lenga at West Florida Hospital, Emerald Coast Hospice of Milton Florida, and Stat Home Health Care for their care and support of Joan and the family.
A memorial service for Joan will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506.
