John Edward Callaway, age 84, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016. He was born February 20, 1932 in Century, Florida and lived most of his life in Pensacola. John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ester Boutwell Callaway, his brother Arthur Callaway, Jr., and sister Murline Harvey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virgie Mae Callaway; sons Rocky Callaway, Jerry (Brenda) Callaway; daughter Lisa (James) McClain; grandchildren Benjamin Callaway, Amber Callaway, Laura Bartkowski, Jon McClain, Patrick Callaway, and Matt McClain; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Raymon (Ann) Callaway; sister Betty Bradley; sister-in-law Theresa Callaway; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
After serving in the Korean War, John was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp in 1951. He then went to work for St. Regis Paper Company and retired from Champion Paper Company after 42 years. After becoming a fan of the Florida Gators football team in his 20s, he remained a loyal and avid fan until his passing.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service.
