John Robert “Bob” Goodwin, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Pensacola on September 10, 2026, just days before his 94th birthday.

Bob lived a long, full, and interesting life. After serving four years

in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller, he continued his

career in air traffic control, working at some of the busiest airports

in the country until his retirement from government service in the

early 1980s.

Bob was never one to sit still and retirement didn’t mean sitting

still either. Bob and his wife, Jan, hit the road in their RV and

traveled across the country; and as an avid golfer, he was able to

continue his love of golf and was able to study and enjoy the game for the majority of his life.

Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a joke. After dinner, especially in his later years, you might hear a story from his time in Korea or when he was a kid. They were often funny, sometimes surprising and always memorable.

But perhaps what best described Bob was his determination. He was one of those rare “never quit” people. His answer was simply to always keep going. It was that toughness and spirit that kept him going for 93 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Janet “Jan” Goodwin, his daughter, Terri Williams and his grandson, Jason.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters and

sons-in-laws, Suzanne Tuzzeo, Marsha Goodwin, and Patricia Hall

(Richard); five grandsons and spouses, Daniel (Ece), Kevin (Danielle), Bryan (Emily), Matthew (Lisl) and Stephen (Brianna); and eight great-grandchildren Lyla, Ariel, Miles, Jack, Wesley, Evelyn, Judah, and Ela.

He served his country, built a career, traveled the country, played a

lot of golf, raised a family, and got the last word more than a few

times.

On September 10th, his family lost someone who had been a constant for a lifetime. And while his life on Earth may have ended, his memory will live in the hearts of his loved ones forever.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2026 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. The interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.
