Joseph Edward Clary

Joe was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 8, 1955. As a member of the United States Navy, he traveled the world before retiring and eventually settling in Louisiana and later in Pensacola, Florida.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Ruth Clary. He is survived by his children, Michelle Peyton (John) and Jason Clary; his grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Loy) Clary and Michael (Mary) Clary; and his sister, Moe (Peter), whom he always declared to be his favorite person on the planet, much to the chagrin of the rest of the family.

Anyone who knew Joe recognized that beneath his gruff exterior was a kind and caring man who deeply loved his family and friends. He was just as happy riding his Harley as he was making memories with his beloved granddaughter, Alyson. For the past 16 years, one of their cherished traditions was a trip to Build-A-Bear for her birthday each year. He also enjoyed watching his grandson Christopher play football and baseball and bringing his longtime canine companion Lizzie to visit his other grandson Colbert.

Joe was proud of his 37 years of sobriety. The many people whose lives he touched through Alcoholics Anonymous, whether as a friend, mentor, or sponsor, are grateful for his guidance and support. In turn, Joe was deeply grateful for the friendships and encouragement he received throughout his journey.

A committal service with Navy Honors will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida, on October 23, 2026 at 2:30pm.
