Joyce Barr passed away on July 25, 2017, after a lengthy illness. She was 81 years old. Joyce was born in Washington D.C., graduated from Eastern High School in D.C., married Wayne Barr, and moved to Pensacola, Florida in the late 50's, where she lived for the rest of her life. Joyce worked for many years in the Escambia County School System.
Joyce’s life was built around her family. She was a regular fixture at her children’s elementary school, where she volunteered in the office and served as “room mother” in her children’s classrooms. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years at Redeemer Lutheran Church, touching the lives of many children over the years.
Joyce was a creative cook who enjoyed feeding family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening every spring. Joyce was also a talented seamstress and used to make clothing for her daughters and later in life created beautiful quilts. Joyce and her husband, Wayne, enjoyed boating and spent countless hours on the waters of Perdido Bay and the surrounding area.
Her family gives thanks that she is now at peace and rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We would also like to thank the staff at The Waterford at Creekside and Emerald Coast Hospice who lovingly cared for her, along with her best friend, Sarah McCurdy.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, James A Livesay and Annie Fenton Livesay, her sisters Anna Lee Schwork and Patricia McMahon, and her brother, James A. Livesay, Jr. She is survived by her children, Linda (Aden) Fleming, Brian (Nancy) Barr, and Jean (Bob) Gillis, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Joyce's Life will take place Friday, November 24, at 4:00 p.m., at her home. All family and friends are invited and certainly most welcome to attend.
