Lamar was born on October 30, 1924, in Pensacola. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward & Mary Creighton, Libbie, his wife of 74 years, his children Elaine Roberts, Thomas Creighton and Marilyn Holland, his grandson Wesley Roberts, his sisters Juanita Chisholm, Thelma Hopkins, Mary Edna Ferguson, Billie Packer and Bobbie Harley, and his brothers Edward Creighton, JR and Harold Creighton.
Lamar is survived by his brother Langley Creighton and his grandchildren: Leslie Briggs, Lisa (JL) Callahan, Regina (Laird) Clapper, Peggy (Clint) Walker, David (Angie) Roberts, 17 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great grandchildren.
In December 1942, Lamar joined the Marine Corps and fought in World War II in the South Pacific. After serving his country, he returned to Pensacola, met Libbie, and they married on January 26, 1946. Lamar worked as an aviation electrician and retired from civil service at NAS.
Strong in faith, Lamar was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pace, and he served as a Master Mason of Pensacola Lodge Number 42 for 75 years. Being a member of the lodge was important to him, and he always fretted about making sure that his dues were paid each year even after he became a lifetime member. Joining the Masons was a way for Lamar to honor his father, and he took great pride in holding onto the stories of his family's legacy. To anyone who would listen, he would tell the tales of his father serving as County Commissioner in the 1930s, delivering milk from the family dairy, attending dances in Floridatown, watching boxing matches on Casino Beach, and explaining how Creighton Road got its name.
The family extends thanks and gratitude to Sodalis Assisted Living Center of Milton and Pruitt Health of Santa Rosa. The staff at both facilities treated our granddaddy with respect, dignity, and compassion he deserved.
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel will be hosting the services on July 12 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral at 11:00 a.m.
