Lucia was born was born on Oct. 15, 1950 in Vincennes, Indiana, to Paul and Jane Trent. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes and studied at Indiana University Bloomington. A hippie at heart, Lucia found her way to Pensacola and put down another set of roots in the South. She met Toby while working at the university library, where he complimented her wrists. They were married on May 1, 1987. Lucia and Toby’s marriage was full of food, conversation, love, cocktail hours, and watching sports, particularly Florida State football.
Lucia took seriously the things others take for granted: a perfect chicken soup, a carefully set table, a walk behind a lawnmower, a dance in the kitchen, a swim in the bay.
Lucia held many titles. She was an artist, always encouraging everyone to color. A writer who won second place in the Dylan Days writing contest. A secretary. A gifted cook who fed everyone with love and care. A mentor who was named Volunteer of the Year. A percussionist who specialized in the tambourine. A pen pal who inspired hope and made people feel seen. Among all her titles, the ones she valued most were housewife and All-Time Bob Dylan No. 1 Fan.
Lucia radiated acceptance, forgiveness, equality, originality and peace. She was the most devoted dog mom through the years to her beloved Rock, Pebbles, Shake Charlie and Stella Pearl. She loved her siblings Paula, Cindi, Tyler and Karim and her siblings-in-law Bethie and Kate. She doted on her nieces and nephews. Her friends were an extension of her family and she loved them the only way she knew how: Minus zero. No limit.
