1928-2012
Mom was born December 10, 1928 in Arcadia, Florida, to Samuel Thornton & Mattie McBride Dodds. As mother woke to start her day on the morning of May 8, 2012, Jesus reached down to take her to heaven; where, she will join her mother & father, along with brothers Thornton & Hubert Dodds. She is finally free of the physical pain and suffering she endured over the past five years.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her four children; daughters, Trudy D. Luescher, Wanda J. Mathis, Vickie A. Mead (Terry) and special daughter, Nancy Nelson Martin; son, Verlin S. “Sam” Sapp, Jr.;
her nine grandchildren, E. Michael Luescher II (Ashley), Tammie M. Hicks, Brad O. Mathis, Benjamin T. Mead, Meredith Mead, Michele Dykes ( Joe), Nick Mead (Ashley), S. Jason Sapp, Charlie Clinard and eleven great grandchildren.
She retired from The University of West Florida as a dispatcher with the Campus Police Department. She went on to work with Wal Mart in the garden center. It was mother’s nature to work hard, no matter how hot the day or how many hours, as was evidenced by working to age 78. She loved watching the flowers grow and took great pride in saving many from dying. Known by many names, Luella, Lou, Mom, Nanny, Nana Lou, Lula Belle & The plant mommy.
A member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, Faith & Dorcas Sunday School Class. Our mother dedicated her life to her children, extraordinary love and sacrificial giving will live on in us, her children.
A special thank you to Dolly Murph, Nancy Clark, Dot Hutchins & Cindy Merritt for the consistent calls, cards, gifts, special dinners and outings for ice cream. Words will never convey how much you meant to her.
It was mothers wish not to have a funeral, but to be remembered as when she was living. She requested organ and tissue donation, her remains to be cremated. There will be a private time for her family with Rev. Al Butler. We take comfort in knowing we will see her again in heaven.
In lieu of flowers for mother, please donate to a charity of choice or give a living plant to someone special, so they will enjoy the excitement of watching it grow, which would be a testament to her life on earth.
Never hesitate to spend time with those you hold most dear.
