Lynn Jon Hieb, 78, of Pensacola passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Lynn was born on August 17, 1943 and raised in Hosmer, South Dakota. He graduated from Northern State College before entering the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966. He served in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Northern State College to obtain his Master’s degree in Education.
Lynn was a teacher and coach at schools in South and North Dakota and later lived in Alaska where he continued teaching and worked as the Recreation Director on the Trans-Alaska pipeline. He married Deborah Ann (Casler) Hieb in July 1987. They moved to Pensacola in 1988 where he continued teaching and raising their daughter. Lynn was a much-loved member of his church family at Warrington Presbyterian Church. He returned to South Dakota regularly where he enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing. Lynn was also a proud cancer survivor and volunteer for the American Cancer Society. He loved going out to eat with friends and attending the Blue Wahoos baseball games. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend, a proud dad, and a very special person to so many.
Lynn is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ellen Hieb, his older brother Verl, his sister Lorene, and his wife of 24 years Deborah. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth, brothers Jere, Neil, and Lee, his loving girlfriend Josie, many nieces and nephews, his cat Smokey, and his grand-dog Tiger.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9am Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Warrington Presbyterian Church with internment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Covenant Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or the Animal Rescue Foundation in Mobile, AL.
