
Madelyn (Madge) I. Erickson, 83, passed away after a long battle with cancer at her home in Pensacola, on Monday, May 27, 2013. She was the daughter of the late James & Hazel Lytle of Chester, PA where she was born and raised. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry J. Erickson, whom through the United States Navy made Pensacola her home since 1954. Madge was a loving mother to her four children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and was very active in their lives. She was an active bowler and enjoyed playing cards and BINGO. She proudly worked for MWR at Pensacola NAS and retired after 38 years as a central cashier. She also was a proud lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve Association. She is survived by her son David (Velma) Bradley, son Steven (Linda) Erickson, daughter Alicia Vanderwiel, son Barry (Sandy) Erickson, grandson Russell (Mona) Doane, granddaughter Amber Erickson, granddaughter Leah Blocker, granddaughter Sarah Erickson, grandson Erick Vanderwiel, great-grandchildren Austin, Anthony, Haleigh, Everett, Matthew, sister Dorothy (John) Howard, sister Lois Morrigan and many nieces and nephews.
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and remembered for her generous and loving heart. She was a strong, independent, selfless lady who never a met a person whom she did not consider a friend. The 10 things she has taken to heaven: a pack of cigarettes, thermos of black coffee, the newest Stephen King book, bowling ball, BINGO bag, shuffle board, pinochle cards, Willie Nelson CD, a comfy moo moo and a picture of her whole family together at Christmas. Everyone knows, she was Smarter than a 5th Grader!
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Warrington Elks Lodge #2108 located at 727 S. 72nd Ave., Pensacola, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola, FL whom the family is grateful for all they did on her behalf.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
