

Mamie Elizabeth Porter Birtley was born on February 13, 1938 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 09, 2017. She was born in Fern Creek, Kentucky, the youngest of 10 children, moved to Pensacola in 1955 where she met the love of her life. Mamie was very active in the Nazarene Church all of her adult life, working with children, singing in the choir and cooking meals. She was very well known for her "Kentucky" fried chicken and had former pastors call and request some of her chicken when they were passing through town. She was a great hostess and opened her home to many who needed a place to stay. She was a second "mom" to many and if you wanted honest advice she would be very truthful with you. She was a great sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Mamie left legacy of faith, love and compassion. May those who come behind her find her faithful as this was the life she lived everyday.
Mamie is survived by her husband of 61 1/2 years, William C. Birtley; four children, Melody Perry (Acie), Linda McCracken, William Birtley (Meloni) and Sharon Armstrong (Ron); one sister, Stella Windle; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who new and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Pastor Denny Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2017 at the funeral home.
