Manuel graduated from the University of Rhode Island. He was a Navy Pilot and served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He taught science in Escambia County Schools. After retiring, he was active in Boy Scouts, earning the Silver Beaver and Wood Badge Awards. He was an avid outdoorsman. He hiked the Appalachian Trails as a thru-hiker in his 80’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Caetano, and his brother, Arthur Caetano, and his sisters: Margaret Reis, Irene Amaral, and Helen Silva. He is survived by his loving wife Marguerite Caetano, his children: Ellen (William) Scott, Elizabeth (Roger) Dwyer, Edi Caetano, Elaine Sasser, Michael (Alison) Caetano, Richard (Thess) Caetano, Al Caetano, James (Rose) Caetano, his siblings: Agnes Astley, Anthony Caetano, his grandchildren: Joshua, Kristina, Nathan, Jessica, Charisse, Jacqueline, Cheyanna, Aiden, Keisha, Justin, Luke, Zoe, Jonas, Ashley, James, Jr., and great-grandchildren, and special friends: Dr. Gary and Millie Buffington, Art Harrison, and Farrell Stearns.
A visitation will be held at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9945 Hillview Dr, Pensacola, FL 32514. Interment will be on Monday, November 25, 2019; family and friends are to meet at 1:15 p.m. at Olive Baptist Church, 103 W Winthrop Ave, Pensacola, FL 32507 to process to Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of your choice.
