Mariellen was born in Riverside, Calif. on June 12, 1932 to Oscar W. Berg and Laura Stuart Berg. Upon Oscar’s death, Laura returned to the family farm in Knightstown, Ind. with Mariellen and her brother, Stuart H. Berg.
Mariellen graduated with honors from Knightstown High School. She then attended Hanover College on the Ohio River near Madison, Ind., where she was a drum majorette. There, she met Jack. M. Beem of Seymour, Ind. They were wed in 1954, after her graduation.
Jack’s career as a U.S. naval officer took them to many duty stations. During this time, they had three sons: Kurt, Karl and Jon. Mariellen was active in the officers’ wives club.
They retired in Pensacola in 1978. During this time, Mariellen volunteered in the historic district of Pensacola as a guide in the Dorr House. Mariellen was an animal lover, the owner of many pets and a donor to animal rights organizations. She also had a green thumb and passed along her love of gardening to her sons.
Jack passed in 2015. Mariellen is survived by middle son, Karl Stuart Beem, and granddaughters, Chaynee Beem and Leila Beem Núñez.
Services will be held on November 17 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation at noon, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 N. New Warrington Rd.
