

Marion Frances King Lassiter, lovingly known to all as “Frances,” passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on December 31, 2025, surrounded by her devoted children. Born on September 8, 1936, in Atmore, Alabama, Frances was the daughter of Dozier King and Bertha Steadham. She was also cherished by her stepfather, Clyde Steadham.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 37 years, Max Lassiter of Atmore, Alabama; her parents, Dozier King and Bertha Steadham; stepfather Clyde Steadham; five brothers; two sisters; and her dear friend, Chipley Clopton. She is survived by her brother, John Steadham, and sister, Sharon Maddow, both of Atmore, Alabama.
Frances was renowned for her love of family and friends, and her warm, welcoming nature meant she never met a stranger. Affectionately called Mrs. Lassiter by generations of schoolchildren, she dedicated over 30 years to serving as a school bus driver in Escambia County, Florida. Her kindness and sweet smile were well known at Warrington Elementary, Navy Point Elementary, Escambia High, Pensacola High, and Westgate School. Frances was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or provide cheerful support, cultivating countless cherished friendships throughout her life.
She found great joy in spending time with her husband Max and their children at their family houseboat on the Tensaw River in Alabama. Frances delighted in fishing, hosting fish frys and gatherings for family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Bunco as well as an occasional trip to the casino.
Frances is survived by her loving children: Mike Lassiter (Peggy) of Monroe, Georgia; Pat Lassiter (Nancy) of Cantonment, Florida; Janet Connor of Franklin, Tennessee; and Barry Lassiter (Kim) of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the church family at New Beginnings Baptist Church for their love and support throughout the years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, at the Eastern Gate Chapel in Pensacola, Florida at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. Minister of Senior Adults, Reverend Lon Roberts of New Beginnings will officiate. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a memorial gift to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) may be made to support Alzheimer’s research.
