Martha “Marty” Louise Silverwood, née Yates, 80 years young, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, July 20th, with her faithful husband of 53 years, Jim, and her three Dobermans (Olive, Baby and Deuce) by her side.
Marty was a graduate of Pensacola High School and Pensacola Junior College, and she worked in the legal field before her retirement almost 20 years ago. Since then, she devoted her time to Jim and her revolving door of dogs - mostly Dobermans. She renewed her hobby of dog obedience training and spent much of her time training, traveling, competing and placing at regional and national level trials. Marty was a frequent sight to her neighbors while on her daily walks, and everyone who knew her knew that 5:00 was martini (or two) hour. Preferably shaken, with only Beefeater - dry as the Sahara Desert - on the rocks, and three large olives.
She is survived by Jim, her daughter Emily and her favorite son-in-law, Jeremy Rice. She is reunited with her mother, Beulah Yates and her father, whom she lost way too young, George Yates. Her family cherishes the thought that she was also reunited with her “heart dog” Cruz and the too-many-to name list of other spoiled dogs, grand-dogs, and even a few spoiled cats, all of whom won the family lottery with Marty & Jim. Services will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. A celebration of life - with made to order martinis – will follow for friends and family. If you wish to honor her memory, please consider donating to warriordogfoundation.org.
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway is entrusted with arrangements.
