Ms. Coe grew up in Hulaco and Fairview, Alabama. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1948. After high school, she attended the State Teachers College in Florence, Alabama, where she received Bachelor of Science degree. She was the president of the Women’s Student Government Association and in Who’s Who among American University & College Students. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Psychology with honors from the University of West Florida in 1983. She was a licensed mental health counselor and became a nationally certified counselor in 1998.
In 1952, she married Clyde C. Anderson in Fairview. They were married for 44 years and together raised four children. Ms. Coe worked as a home economist, therapist and counselor at Lakeview Center, Pensacola from 1971 to 1986. She was in private practice from 1988 - 1995 with Psychological Associates in Pensacola. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pensacola for 60 years and was continually involved with United Methodist Women, Sunday school, the children’s ministry, and youth activities.
In June 1998, she married David C. Coe at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola. The Coes traveled extensively and were active in social groups, including the Retired Naval Officers Wives’ Club and the Krewe of Avant Garde. Their favorite activity was spending time with friends and family. David Coe died in 2006.
Mary is survived by her children Wayne Anderson (Joan) of Dublin, GA; Bob Anderson (Robin) of Suwannee, GA; Jim Anderson (Rosemary Ellis) of Brooklyn, NY; daughter Beth Anderson of Marietta, GA; their father Clyde Anderson of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren Amy McDonald, Philip Anderson, Evan Anderson, and Lucy Anderson; great-grandchildren Camden and Davis McDonald; niece Lynn Burden and nephew Glen Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola Thursday, Dec. 8, 11:00 AM. Her ashes will be interred at FUMC of Pensacola following the service.
