Mary Lela Jernigan

1931 – 2011

Mary Lela Jernigan, age 79, of Pensacola, FL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

Mary was born in Atmore, Alabama to Edward Forrest Farish and Alma Terry Farish. She moved to Pensacola at the age of 11, where she lived the rest of her life. Mary graduated from Pensacola High School with the class of 1949.

She married Edward Neil Jernigan in 1949 at the First Baptist Church of Pensacola. The joy of her life was taking care of her family and home. Mary taught her children love and how to love by example. Her faith in God was unwaivered and she believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. Mary was a member of Ferry Pass United Methodist Church.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Dr. Preston T. Farish and Sidney O. Farish.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Edward Neil Jernigan, Jr. (Pam); daughter, Brenda Reneé Gleaton (Eric); brother, Edward S. Farish (Kathryn); grandchildren, Lela Erskine (Aaron), Lynn Rogers (Kevin) and Wesley Gleaton; great grandchildren, Hannah Rogers, Hayden Rogers, Hallie Rogers and Matthew Erskine; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 21, 2011 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Rev. Mike Roberts and Rev. Carolyn Nelson officiating.

Pallbearers will be, Wesley Gleaton, Eric Gleaton, Kevin Rogers, Aaron Erskine, Sidney Farish and Bill May.

Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Amos Prevatt for all his personal care. We would also like to thank the staff at Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice for all their tender loving care.
