Mary Catherine Montgomery

Awaiting her heavenly arrival are her mother and father, William and Nellie Mahoney and her two brothers Bill Mahoney and John Burke. Feeling her earthly loss are her children Katie and Tony McPherson, Mary and Bruce Demars, Jim and Cathy Montgomery, Frank and Doreen Montgomery, Beth and Pete Parkins and Jeannie Christiansen; her grandchildren Michael and Denee Kimberl, Tricia and John Hollingsworth, Alex, Becca, and Michael Demars, Emily Brewton, John Parkins, Tyler and Liz Montgomery, Kati and Ryan Sherrod, Trey and Kelly Chapman, Courtney, Carly, Thomas Christiansen and Thomas Kindall; and her great-grandchildren Zane, Hannah, Hailey, McKenzie and Miles. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Janet Burke and close friend Alice Saunders.

Along with raising her family, Catherine spent her days working for the Escambia County School System for twenty years. She also volunteered in her children’s activities including little league sports and the Boy Scouts of America. She received the distinguished Silver Fawn Award becoming the first woman in Northwest Florida to receive such an honor from the Boy Scouts of America. After her retirement she also continued to assist in the library at Sherwood Elementary School for many years.

Catherine enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting. Later in life, while living at University Pines, it gave her great pleasure to make teddy bears for sick children in local hospitals and to organize and maintain the library at “the Pines”.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff of West Florida Hospital during her stay, especially those caring for her on 6 North.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 17, 2016, immediately following visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Catherine would like donations to be made to Sean’s Outpost at satoshiforest.com or Sean’s Outpost, 1999 Massachusetts Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32505. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
