

Mary Elizabeth Caldwell Wharton, 93, of Pensacola passed away at home Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Mary was born in Garnett, Kansas, on May 28, 1924 to Gilmon and Ella Caldwell. She was predeceased by her parents; siblings Glenn and Marie; and her husband of 68 years, Vernon. Mary was a devoted mother, homemaker and an avid quilter. She dedicated untold hours participating with many charities and social organizations, particularly Rebekah Lodge #85. Mary was well known as Greatmomma to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends. She is survived by daughters Mary Jane (Gerald) Byrd and Janet Marie Wharton; granddaughters Kari Patrice (Mark) Givens, Juli Elizabeth (Bill) Reece, and Cori Ann (Derek) Lowe; great grandchildren Conner and Sean Givens, and Jackson and Chloe Reece; sister Alice Betty Tilton along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who helped care for Mary in her late months. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Council on Aging West Florida or your favorite charity. Mary will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 21. The family will accept friends beginning at 9am with a 10am service at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Barrancas National Cemetery.
