Passed away peacefully on January 11th, 2021 in Covenant Care at Sacred Heart Hospital. Monroe is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years. Mary C. Matheny, and his son Raymond M. Matheny. He is survived by his sister, Norma L (Betsy) Delmarco, 3 Daughters Tina Maria Sutherland, Sandra K. Mathenay, Brenda S. Allison, and many grandsons and granddaughters.
Monroe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during the Korean War. He also served his community as a Sheriff's Deputy for 7 years before becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshal and retiring after a 20 year career. Monroe was a man of integrity and a pillar of strength and faith to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services (no viewing in accordance with his wishes) provided by Oak Lawn Funeral Home will be conducted on Thursday January 21st. An escorted procession to Barrancas National Cemetery located at Naval Air Station Pensacola will precede a graveside service officiated by Pastor Ben Martin. A gathering of life by family and friends will be held at a private residence following the completion of military honors.
