Morene K. Olson (Kathy/KO/Mom/Grammie) peacefully passed away at home in Milton, Florida on Sunday January 17th, 2016 after a heroic yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 83. Born on June 28, 1932 in Evanston, IL to Danella Spiegle and John Marak. Kathy graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1951 and educated herself in the real estate abstract/title field where she worked at Lawyers Title in Ft. Lauderdale.
Kathy is survived by her Husband, Carl R. Olson Sr. of Milton, Florida; Children, Cheryl Lynn Olson of Milton, Florida, Rick ( Elaine) Olson of Pace, Florida and Brian K. Olson of Destin, Florida; granddaughter, Amie Depue; grandsons, Ricky Olson, Cameron Bolin and Chris Odum; great grandchild, Jasmine Odum; brother, Donald Marak of Franklin, Wisconsin; and loved nieces and nephews. Dennis Marak (Antoinette), Barbara Wilkerson (Harry), Dale Marak (Diane), Patti Emberts (Jeff); and great nephews. Also, survived by her brother-in-law Herbert (Sallie) Olson and loved nephews and nieces, Chuck (Cindy) Olson, Linda Lightsey (Jim), both are her Godchildren; Pam Wilson, Sherrie Hanahan (John) and Stacy Beecroft (Wally) and many great nieces and nephews. We must acknowledge mom’s closest friend of 54 years Joan Ash who was like a sister to our mom and another mother to us. Joan has gone on to be with the Lord and they are together again in Heaven. Mom also leaves behind her babies Sunni, Shani and Lexi; who are left to remind us of the passion she had for animals.
Kathy leaves her legacy behind through her children and grandchildren. Kathy was a deeply devoted Mother, Grandmother and close friend to many. There was nothing that she would not do for her children and family throughout her life. She was so proud of her children. Kathy was a very special lady and truly a “one of a kind” personality that would touch hearts that would quickly come to love her and her big smile. Our mom was the glue that held everyone and everything together for her family. Kathy loved cooking and would spend hours each day in the kitchen preparing food as if an army was coming. Needless to say… there was always room at her table. She had a way of making people feel so special and make them know they were handsome or beautiful. The front door was always open to anyone that needed to talk, a place to sleep or roof over their head. She was truly amazing. She was a long time loyal friend to so many people, they were all her family and there was no exception for the love she had for each of them.
