Our beloved mother and grandmother passed over into glory to meet her Savior on Monday morning, June 27, 2016. She is reunited with her high school sweetheart, Donald L. Harrod, to whom she was married for over 55 years. Born in 1932 in Kentucky, to William and Louise McDaniel, she is the oldest of five children. She is survived by her siblings- William (Buddy) McDaniel, Pat Geeslin, and Phyllis McDaniel; she was preceded in death by David McDaniel.
Her life revolved her husband and taking care of her family. Her children; Keith Harrod, Karen Harrod, Stephen Harrod and wife Pam, as well as her four grandchildren- Jason Townsend, Jenny Tobe and husband Sean, Amy Hall and husband Brad and daughter Haley, and Brian Harrod and wife Rachel, will be eternally grateful for the positive influence she was in their lives. Even in her last days, she was asking what she could do to help her family. Early in her marriage, she worked as a banker, helping to support her husband in school until the birth of their first child. She continued to support the family by willingly moving repeatedly as Don continued to work to complete his PhD.in engineering and to advance his career. She enjoyed being a homemaker, managing the daily tasks of raising children and running a home. She was a meticulous and creative housekeeper, using her banking skills to find and maintain a lovely home—on a scholar’s budget. She taught us the fun of finding great deals and refinishing furniture. She willingly took up camping and helped plan meals and activities that would stay within the monthly food budget.
The priority for the family has always been serving Jesus Christ. In fact, her earliest dates with Don were to Sunday night church. She always helped ensure that the family stayed in a vibrant church. For several years, she worked as the secretary for South Hills Christian School in Library in Pennsylvania to allow her children the experience of a Christian education. In Pensacola, Florida, she had been a member of Olive Baptist Church since 1990.
Her life will continue to be an example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held on Thursday, June 30, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy, in Pensacola. The family will greet guests beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., which will be officiated by Dr. Ted Traylor. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ministry Village at Olive, Inc., 1836 E. Olive Road, Pensacola, FL 32514, or contact Stan Lollar at 850-476-1932.
