Beloved Oscar, 79, went to be with the Lord after a short illness. He was born of Charles and Katherine Sheffer on 8/8/1931 in Franklin Pennsylvania.
Oscar is survived by his wife of five and a half years, JRoAnne (Judith Jecmen-Fuhrman) Bergman of Pensacola, and one sibling Glenn Bergman of Tuscon, AZ, Sons Marvin, Joey, Oscar, Brian and Steven Bergman, one daughter Cara Kreighauser, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, grandneices and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by five step children, 14 step grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren as well as his very dear friend Kaz Suzuki of Japan. He was loved by his brother and sister in law, James and Sandra Fierce of Scottsboro, Alabama and their family. Oscar proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from January 1950 to January 1958 and the U.S. Air Force from May 1962 to May of 1974 when he retired. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was lifetime member # 93926 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Supreme Deputy Inspector and Grand Senior Vice Commander in Japan. He was a member of the Thomas F. Welch Post 706 in Pensacola where he held various elected positions. He was lifetime member #02346 of the Military Order of the Cootie and member of Sea Oats 66 in Pensacola, FL, as well as lifetime member #21 of the Air Force Sargents Assoc. He was a life member in good standing of the American Cribbage Congress. Oscar served as Ruling Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Pensacola and part time secretary for the church. (A memorial service will be held At Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. for friends and family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3626 W. Jackson St. Pensacola, FL 32505.
