Ozzie, as he was known by his family and friends, was born July 19, 1930 in Collinwood, Tennessee, to John Daniel Barnes and Ollie Bell Jones Barnes. He served in the U. S. Air Force where he was a pilot, attained the rank of Lt. Colonel and was on the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Ozzie is preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Strong Barnes; second wife, Wilma Bogue Barnes; and third wife, Eva McKinney Barnes. Also preceding him in death are his parents, John and Ollie Bell Barnes; sons, Gregory Barnes and Bradley Barnes.
He is survived by his son, Douglas K. Barnes; one grandchild and three great grandchildren; niece and nephew, Roxanne McDonald and Jerry McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2020 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
