Pantelis Zisis. "Pete the Greek" to those who knew him in Fort Wayne. With all family in Florida and Greece, he considered us his "other" family and made certain I knew it by telling me every chance he had.

Having learned of you passing a week after it happened has been very difficult. I feel as though I somehow let you down. How many times did we discuss having someone there when we die? Had I known, I would have been there for you. I am truly sorry. One would have thought that as many times as hospital staff called me in the middle of the night to help you, they would have called me that day also. It's still very hard for me. I tried to look out for you and the neighbors have even comment as such to me, as I told them of your death.

To many strangers, he was outwardly difficult. His broken heavy Greek accent would often result in uncomfortable encounters with others as they would become frustrated with him. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to speak with complete strangers and coach them through conversations so they didn't explode. Doctors, nurses, charge nurses, hospital "House Supervisors", friends, neighbors and even a few CEOs who happened to run companies that he interacted with. But if you gave him a chance, his charm would shine through. Deep down, he cherished haggling for the absolutely best bargain known to man. He was the king of negotiations, with those who muddled through the conversations. In fact, I think that was his only goal in life. He was a gentle heart who shared himself with my family. I was his friend as he was mine.

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I am grateful for our last talk, just hours before your unexpected accident. I'm sorry your relatives are burying you in Florida and not where hung your hat. But I know the love you harbored for your sister and mother and I respect their wishes.

Pete, you will be missed. You definitely left a mark in this world and I will miss you my friend.

Pete was our neighbor in Fort Wayne, IN, we thought of him as family. I am very sad to hear that he has passed. Life on Rothman Road sure will not be the same without him. I remember him coming over for dinner once and eating corn on the cob and telling our daughter how she should be eating it so she doesn't waste any of it. I will miss his random visits to our house. He was very nice once you got to know him and would do anything for you. He was for sure one of a kind and we will miss him very much!
