Preston Jerry Cook of Gulf Breeze died January 2, 2019. He was 71. He was born July 27, 1947 in Butler, Alabama. He is survived by his daughter Jade Nguyen and her husband Vu (sons Banner and Ben), his son Jason Cook, sister Mary Catherine Hughes, his girlfriend of 13 years Dale Foshee, her daughter Tiffany Foshee, son Kevin and his wife Cindi (daughter Summer.)
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin H. and Mary E. Cook, brothers Lawrence, Dennis and Jack Cook, and his wife of 27 years Phyllis Jeanne Cook.
Jerry served in the United States Army during two tours in the Vietnam War. Upon returning he worked for many years as a manager for Fade Auto Parts in Pensacola but later retired to his true passion and became a day trader.
He was a loving and devoted father and friend, and loved spending time with his family and friends playing games, listening to music and watching sports. Later in life he moved to Clermont, Florida with Dale where he did more of the same, while lounging by the swimming pool and enjoying visits with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, January 10 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 619 New Warrington Road from noon until 1:30. Service to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alan Scott, Matt Holmes, Gary Sirdinia, Dale Faessel, David Blackman, and Mike Bernard. Honorary pallbearers are Del Shortt, Cliff Van Alst, and Rick Polland. A Celebration Of Life will follow at the Elbow Room at 2213 W. Cervantes St. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in Jerry’s name.
