Raymond Chester (Ski) Brykczynski, 85, of Pensacola, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Azalea Trace retirement community. Ski was born on August 16, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Pulaski High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. He married Stella Marie Brykczynski in 1946.
Ski served in the United States Navy for 27 years as a meteorologist. His duty stations included Hawaii, Korea, three tours in Newfoundland, Washington State, Panama Canal Zone, Japan, California, New Jersey and three tours in Pensacola, Florida. Sea duty included tours on the USS HENRICO (APA-45) and his final tour on the USS LEXINGTON (CVT-17) in Pensacola, Florida. He retired in 1972.
Ski received a B.A. in Communications from the University of West Florida. After retiring from the Navy, he spent time deep sea fishing, traveling, maintaining a yard and volunteering. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 022 and a founding member of Naval Weather Service Association.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Stella; parents Stanley and Theresa Brykczynski; three brothers Irvin, Arthur and Edward; and sister Alice. Survivors include son Jay (Becky) Brykczynski of Pensacola, Florida; son Terry Brykczynski of New York, New York; daughter Joanne (Townsend) Brykczynski of Kapolei, Hawaii; son Billy Brykczynski of Fairfax, Virginia; granddaughters Destiny Brykczynski, Christina Lilley, Denise Lilley, Anna Brykczynski; and great-grandchildren Alejandra, Adrian, Javier, Mateo and Ruby.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 9:30 a.m. at the Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.
