Robbie’s life in this world began on a hot summer night in Mississippi in 1917, and her flight to the next life took place on a warm spring night in 2017. Her life is one of service: 100 years, give or take. A nurse for 25 years and a volunteer at Baptist Hospital for 12 years, at many Naval hospitals for 30 years, and at the Escambia County Nursing Home for 20, Robbie also served as a counselor for the rape crises hotline, an animal whisperer at the Humane Society, and a friend to the hardy & happy and those less fortunate during her entire lifetime. Robbie never met a person or pet she didn’t like, and she never met a person or animal in need that she didn’t love. She generously contributed beyond her means-but reflective of her spirit-to Manna Food Bank, WSRE Public Television, Capstone Therapy Centers, orphans’ homes, disabled veterans’ organizations and endless community causes. Robbie was quiet but mighty in her devotions. Though she was spotlighted as an “Angel in our Midst,” Robbie’s acts of kindness were totally without expectation of any recognition, praise, or even feedback. Her gifts were truly that…gifts.
Because of her goodness, we are better.
Because of her kindness, we are kinder.
Later in her years, Robbie married the love of her life, Al Cravey, who predeceased her in 1997. She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Diane Somer (Bobby Likis); sons by fortunate marriage, Larry (Sandy) Cravey and Ron (Catherine) Green, and son by divinely intervened friendship, Dick Nicholson (mother Thelma); granddaughters Misty Likis (Christy Cammarata) and Kimberlina Dunn (Roy); the apples of her eye great grandchildren, Noah, Faith, Abram and Grace Dunn; and dear friend, Bernice Samples.
Deepest gratitude goes to the loving folks at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace for their unwavering, sweet daily tending to Robbie and to Regency Hospice who anticipated and met her every need with professional, tender, loving care and who helped usher her into the next.
Honorable pallbearers are Bobby Likis, Dick Nicholson, Eric Reitman and Kijafa Lee. The Celebration of Robbie’s long, well-lived life will be held at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace on Good Friday: 9:30am for a gathering of friends and family; 10:30am for the service. Please join us.
Robbie, you are our transcendental treasure. Rest now and know that you are loved.
