Robert "Ernie" Ernest Houston

Born on April 7, 1949, Ernie was a lifelong resident of the Pensacola area and a proud graduate of Escambia High School Class of 1967. He was known for his big heart, quick sense of humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. Ernie loved sports, old cars, fishing, and spending time joking and cutting up with family and friends — especially his brothers Wayne and Larry, with whom he shared countless laughs and memories.

Ernie dedicated many years of service to Monsanto⁠/ Solutia⁠ before retiring from O’Reilly Auto Parts⁠. No matter where he worked or who he met, he was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or do something kind to brighten someone’s day.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Bob” Houston; his mother, Nola Jeanette Copeland; and his brother, Wayne Houston.

Ernie is survived by his loving partner, Barbara Nord; daughters Tina Pendleton (Charles) and Janie Houston; grandchildren Dylan Ankney, Courtney Ankney, Tara Pendleton, Ryan Pendleton (Emma), Kaden Pendleton (Kaity), Kylah Houston, and Keeloh Houston; as well as 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Houston (Louise), his special nephew Matthew Houston(Candy), along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the CCU unit at HCA Florida West Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Ernie and his loved ones during his final days.

Ernie will be remembered for his laughter, generosity, playful spirit, poetry,

and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

A Committal Service will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Incorporated, 7433 Pine Forest Rd, Pensacola, FL 32526, US, on May 30, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
