Lt. Col. Robert E. Stairs, Ret. USAF, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010, at the age of 86. Mr. Stairs has been a resident of Pensacola for over 60 years. He was a pilot in the United States Air Force, and served during World War II, until his retirement. While in the service, he was stationed with his family overseas and all over the United States until retiring in Pensacola. He worked for Taylor Hardware after he retired. He attended Grace Lutheran Church with his wife, and attended their Sunday School Classes. He loved to play golf and reading to keep up with current events. His passions included traveling with his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Husted Stairs in 1991. He re-married and was also preceded in death by his second wife Barbara Keim Stairs in 2008. His parents Eldon and Blanche Stairs, and his son Robert Preston Stairs also preceded him.

He is survived by his daughter Sandra Stairs; daughter-in-law Karen Stairs of Wichita, KS; 3 grandchildren Michaela Jean Stairs, Santiago William Stairs, and Mandy Stairs.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Scott Snyder officiating.

Interment will follow with military honors in Bayview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
