Sara D. Langston, 92, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born in Trenton, Tennessee to C.A. and Hazel Boone, who preceded her in death as well as her brother, Bill Boone, son-in-law, Gary Chasteen and step-grandson, Todd Chasteen.
Sara leaves behind her husband of 71 years, Eugene P. Langston; daughters: Laura Chasteen and Jo Langston; son: Don (Judy) Langston; grandchildren: Melody (Chris), Josh (Elaine), Geneva and Carly; step-grandchildren: Michael (Tiffany), David (Brandi) and Mark (Christa); great-grandchildren: Samantha, Rebecca and Kassidy; step-great-grandchildren: Brylee, Braelyn, Jace, Ronan, Graham and Harrison.
To her family, Sara was a devoted, caring and nurturing wife and mother, reflecting in large part her authentic desire to follow the teachings and example of Jesus. It was through this lens of love and service that she viewed the world and her place in it. She relied on God’s guidance and power to transform herself and be an instrument of grace to people in her life. Because of this sacred worldview, Sara was generous with her resources and time. She had a heart for the less fortunate and volunteered at Samaritan Hands Ministry for years to serve those in need. Without fanfare, she also privately contributed to individuals who needed help and organizations that enriched life in her community. Her servant’s heart compelled her to serve on numerous church committees, teach Sunday school, assist in the library, serve as captain of her tennis team, coordinate community events, and volunteer to do mundane tasks for the greater good. Whether working in a leadership role or behind the scenes, Sara understood that she always received more than she gave.
Sara’s intellectual curiosity enhanced not only her own life but also the lives of her friends and family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing the deeper aspects of the books and articles that she read. She traveled the world throughout her life, searching for interesting places and people in God’s world. Her love for the natural world gave her wisdom and peace as she observed the sun, birds, and trees through the seasons. Everything Sara did, from the significant to the mundane, was infused with prayer and thanksgiving. As she grew in Christ, she discovered that the Source of peace, love and joy was the Spirit of God that lived within her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan Hands Ministry or LEAFF through First Baptist Church of Pensacola Ministry Programs (fbcp.org).
The family cordially invites friends to attend a visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel, 500 N Palafox St., Pensacola. A celebration of life service will take place immediately following the visitation
