Thomas Scott Holden of Pensacola, Florida passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on January 16, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida and he grew up in Pensacola. He attended Pensacola Christian School, Escambia High School, and The University of West Florida, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. in History.
As a young man, Scott worked as staff writer and other positions for the Pensacola News Journal. In 1977 he became the owner and operator of Flowers by Holden. For twenty five years he was passionate about providing quality floral service, in particular, providing chancel flowers for neighboring churches Brownsville Baptist, and Richard’s Memorial UMC.
He was a lifelong student of the world. A passionate historian at heart, he possessed an extraordinary knowledge of history and found endless joy in exploring the stories and lessons of the past. His love of music filled every chapter of life, providing comfort, inspiration, and connection with others. An avid reader and admirer of American literature, he found wisdom and delight in the works of the nation's greatest writers and shared that enthusiasm generously with those around them. His curiosity, intellect, and love of learning left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harris and Doris Holden; and his sister, Victoria Holden. Over the years he shared his life with many beloved dogs and cats that he rescued. They were the characters in many of his best stories.
He is survived by his children, Jason (Bobbi) Holden, Justin Holden, and Hilary (Joshua) Overstreet; grandchildren, Levi Holden, Emma Holden, Lucas Holden, Luis Holden, and Linc Holden.
He will be remembered for his thoughtful conversations, humor, and unwavering appreciation for The Beatles, Sherlock Holmes, Mark Twain, Theodore Roosevelt, Humphrey Bogart, and Jack Dempsey. His memory lives on in the lives he touched and the knowledge he inspired others to pursue.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gulf Valor Rehabilitation, and Pastor Lon Roberts from New Horizons Baptist Church for the many years of care and compassion they showed Scott, especially in his final days.
