Virgie Mae Bray Callaway 1931-2018
Virgie Mae Bray Callaway, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. She was born June 17, 1931 in Brewton, Alabama, and lived most of her life in the surrounding Pensacola area. Virgie was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, John Edward Callaway. She is survived by her sons: Rocky Callaway and Jerry Callaway and his wife, Brenda; daughter Lisa McClain and her husband James; grandchildren: Benjamin Callaway, Amber Schultz, Laura Bartkowski, Jon McClain, Patrick Callaway, and Matt McClain; several great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews and special family friend, Lucia Dolan. Virgie was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was active in several churches throughout her life, participated in the Happy Homemakers Club in the 1970s, and volunteered at West Florida Hospital in the 1980s. Virgie worked for a brief time in admitting at West Florida Hospital, which she dearly loved. She will long be remembered for her vivacious personality, her love of a good long chat and her passion for window shopping. The family would like to thank the staff of the Veranda of Pensacola for their love and attention to Mom these past few years. Her friends there truly blessed her last years. We’d also like to thank the staffs at West Florida Hospital and Covenant Hospice for the careful attention to Mom and their support of our family. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, immediately followed by a service, officiated by family friend, Chaplain Mark Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue Pensacola, FL, 32504, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.

Thinking of You, always until we meet again in Heaven!

John and Vergie were our neighbors in Copper Forest. They were the sweetest couple and so very devoted to each other and their family. We had to come to terms with them being Gator Fans!

Aunt Virgie always held a special place in my heart for being a good talker (like myself) and the only other left- handed family member, besides myself, that I knew when I was growing up. I can remember how much fun my grandparents had with Aunt Virgie and Uncle Johnny and how "the gang" would play their weekly ChickenFoot game for the coveted ChickenFoot trophy. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Callaway family during this difficult time. I will truly miss that wonderful lady. Love, Shannon Aufdencamp (granddaughter of Myrtle and Willie Peterson)

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Brenda and Jerry, and the entire family during this time of loss. Mrs. Callaway was always so kind to us and treated us like family. One of my favorite memories is how much she loved showing off her collection of penguins - in all forms and sizes. Please accept our most sincere condolences. We love you.
