Walter “Ray” Jetton is carrying the checkered flag now with a big smile on his face racing on the streets of gold. He passed away January 30, 2018 at Rehabilitation Center at Park Place, a supportive and compassionate nursing home, with family by his side.
Ray was born January 26, 1946 in Pensacola, Florida and a lifelong resident. Ray graduated from Pensacola Technical High in 1964. He worked as a mechanic for Mitchell Motors for 42 years. He had a passion for racing and a car named “Pink Lady” number 93 that he raced at Five Flags Speedway. He loved his cowboy boots and “spit shined” them everyday. He could not get through a day without his favorite choice of drink… black coffee.
Ray was preceded in his death by his parents William and Betty Jetton and grandparents Walter and Anita Pfeiffer and Virgil and Dovie Cox.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Rae (Sean) McDermott of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Anita Thomas of Loomis, CA; Faye Bamberg and Diane Gill of Gulf Breeze, FL; Joyce Clapper and Debbie Kimrey of Pensacola, FL; brother, Ron (Lynn) Jetton of Rincon, GA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
Ray’s family is thankful for the guidance, care, concern, amiability, and devotion by Rehabilitation Center at Park Place; the empathy, responsiveness, and tenderness shown by Family-Funeral and Cremation; the benevolence, solicitude, and kindness of Bayview Memorial Park; and the sincere compassion and counseling of Luke Gilley.
Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Pfeiffer, Tommy Pfeiffer, Ron Clapper Jr, and Reed Clapper Sr.
