Walter Hill Glenn Sr.

Walter Glenn was born to Lester O. Glenn and Evelyn Glenn on May 26, 1937, in Birmingham, Alabama. His childhood was shared with a brother, John, and a sister, Nancy. He grew up attending the Birmingham school system and graduated from high school in 1954.

Following high school graduation, Walter attended Auburn University on an NROTC scholarship. During his years at Auburn, he was involved in Student Government and was very involved in First Baptist Church activities. During his senior year he served as Vice President of the student body and graduated among Who’s Who in American colleges and universities.

While a student at Auburn, Walter met Sue LeCompte, also a student at Auburn, and they were married following graduation in June, 1958. They came to Pensacola for Walter’s first assignment in the Navy as a flight student. He earned his Navy Wings of Gold in April, 1960. Following many assignments stretching from Maine to Sigonella, Sicily, they returned to Pensacola for his last tour of duty in 1975.

During their marriage, Walter and Sue had three children: daughters Lisa and Susan; and a son, Walter, Jr. As “Navy Brats” they endured many moves and school changes, but they survived those moves and made friends wherever they lived.

Upon retirement from the Navy in 1979, the beautiful town of Pensacola became home for the Glenn family where Walter began his second career as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley, retiring in 2003. Walter and Sue found friendship and spiritual guidance at First United Methodist Church where Walter served as an usher and Sunday School president.

Walter is predeceased in death by his parents; his brother; his sister; and his dear daughter Susan. He is survived by his wife, Sue; his daughter, Lisa; and his son, Walter, Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm. At First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St., Pensacola, FL.

Rest in peace, Walter, you were loved by many people and will not be forgotten by your family and friends.
