Walter "Tim" Spurgeon Brewer, Jr., 75, a native of North Wilkesboro, died Friday, July 3, 2015, in Pensacola, Florida. Walter was born and grew up in North Wilkesboro, NC. He was the son of the late, Walter S. Brewer and Paula Craft Brewer Higgins. He graduated from Lees-McRae College and attended Appalachian State University. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Walter was retired from Lowes Inc. where he worked as a management executive. He retired and lived for many years in Pensacola, Florida. He was a talented musician playing both bass and lead guitar in various bands, and for pleasure most of his life. Playing music for people brought him great joy, he spoke of it up to the day he passed away.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Rebecca Brewer; a sister, Melanie Higgins Francis; and his beloved aunt that help rear him, Virginia Tomlinson Mayes.
He is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Brewer Church and husband, Bryan and Angie Brewer Blake and husband, Mark of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving is his step-daughter, Katy Ingram of Florida; his sister, Vickie Higgins Taylor and husband, Dr. Robert Taylor of North Wilkesboro; three granddaughters, Ashleigh Kringel of Honolulu Hawaii, and Virginia and Anne Blake of Raleigh; his former wife, Barbara Brewer Nye of Raleigh; and his friends in Pensacola.
It was Walter’s wish for his body to be donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at Duke University and for his ashes to be scattered near Lees-McRae College, a place he loved very much. There are no services scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Walter’s honor for Parkinson’s research to the Duke Movement Disorders Center, 932 Morreene Rd. Durham, NC 27705.
