Bud served 30 years in the United States Navy as a catapult and arresting gear officer on numerous aircraft carriers and retired as a Commander. Having served multiple assignments in Pensacola, he fell in love with the area and decided to retire there with his wife of 50+ years Viola (Kurkowski) Arkin. He relocated to the Tampa area to be closer to family after his second wife, Imogene (Moody) Arkin, also passed away. While in Pensacola Bud became very active in the Elks Lodge and served several years as the treasurer. He also took great pleasure in arranging Biloxi casino bus trips, Las Vegas vacations, and many ocean cruises.
He is survived by his daughter, Lee Ann Abrams; son, Richard Arkin; grandchildren, David Arkin, Dayna Dennington, and Keri Stooksbury; six great-grandchildren; and extended family. Bud enjoyed watching and investing in the stock market, and CNBC could often be seen or heard in the background.
A private interment was held at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors on June 30, 2026.
Bud will be remembered for his proud service to his country, his devotion to family, and the joy he found in sharing life’s adventures with those around him. His steady presence, generous spirit, and memorable stories will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew and loved him.
