1930-2018
William “Bill” Webb Todd, 88, of Gulf Breeze, FL succumbed to cancer at the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on October 31, 2018.
Bill is survived by his wife Fayne of 68 years; son Robert (Terri) Todd; daughters: Dani (David) Whetstone and Jeana (Chris) Dorow; brother, Jerry Todd; and sisters: Sandra Pipkin and Jackie McBrayer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Jackson. Bill loved his nine grandchildren: Kalli,Will, Leah and Ben Todd; Matt and Allison Whetstone and Abigail, Grace and Brenlen Dorow. Bill had the joy of many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
Bill loved to fix things, especially things that were a challenge. He loved to repurpose everything and found it very difficult to throw anything away as there was always a way he “might” could use it later. His love for fixing things carried over into his career as an IBM employee, President of Midway Water Board and various HOA roles and responsibilities. At a very young age he learned electrical skills while in the Air Force and continued his love for fixing things and learning as a Systems Engineer. Bill worked for IBM for over 35 years and retired in 1990, achieving much success in his career. He was fortunate enough to transfer back to Florida while still working with IBM where he and Fayne were able to build their dream home on East Bay. That is where he was the happiest. He loved the water and enjoyed all the activities associated with it. Many hours were spent tootling around the party barge while watching the kids and grandkids learn to ski, and master the tube. Bill also loved being a great neighbor. The relationships and the bonds he developed along Hickory Shores are enviable. Everybody knew Mr. Bill and always consulted or looked for advice on how to fix things.
With his incredibly generous spirit of always helping others, Bill loved to garden and grow things. He was forever in the garden working and gathering fruits and vegetables to share with his neighbors. Bill also had a love for learning and encouraged in his children to do so too. It continued well after his schooling and career. He became fascinated with bees. He began beekeeping along with his gardening and provided many pints of delicious honey for many neighbors and friends for years. He had such admiration for the bees in their work ethic and how they were able to produce and provide in so many ways for so many.
Bill was a very strong man, both physically and mentally. He never backed down from a challenge. Even during his final days his was determined to conquer the smartphone.
A special thank you to the people at Regency Hospice in Gulf Breeze for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the incredible nursing staff at Bay Breeze. They were very loving and understanding during this difficult time and showed him so much love during his stay.
