William Alexander MacAlpine
August 21, 1924 – April 6, 2018
William A. MacAlpine, age 93 of Pensacola, died Friday, April 6, 2018 at his home. Mr. MacAlpine was born August 21, 1924 in Weymouth, MA to James G. MacAlpine, Sr. and Catherine MacAlpine. He joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and earned his pilot’s wings in 1944. Mr. MacAlpine continued to serve in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired at MacDill AFB after 20 years of service. In 1951 he married Irene (Need Maiden Name) and was married 59 years until her death. After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. MacAlpine earned his degree in Economics. He moved to Pensacola in 1968 and went to work as a bank examiner for the FDIC, a job from which he also retired. In his spare time, Mr. MacAlpine enjoyed puttering around with engines, birdwatching and traveling to the mountains out west and also in Canada.
Mr. MacAlpine is survived by his two daughters: Shirley and husband Harold Green of Pensacola, Judy and husband Joseph Mack of Milton, three grandchildren Charles M. Green, IV and Amber, Michael J. Green and Elizabeth, and April and husband Andrew Niedzwiecki; one great granddaughter Addison Green and his brother James G. MacAlpine, Jr. and wife Ruth.
The family of Mr. MacAlpine will have a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Covenant Care Hospice of Pensacola. Mr. MacAlpine’s arrangements are under the direction of Oak Lawn Funeral Home of Pensacola.
