Major William Eugene Nelson, USAF (Ret.), 89, of Pensacola, died Thursday, August 25, 2011.
Major Nelson was born March 27, 1922 in Fargo, North Dakota to Ernest Oscar Nelson and Jessie Lundstrom Nelson. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and retired after 24 years of service. He moved to Pensacola in 1972.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert “Bob” Nelson and Bert Nelson.
Major Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Elsie Creel Nelson of Pensacola; son, Jeff Nelson and wife Pati of Milton, FL; daughter, Tina N. Riley and husband Eldon of Pensacola; grandchildren, Jason Nelson, William Michael Tiedman, D’Anna Redleski and Alecia M. Phillips; and one great granddaughter, Michaela D. Tiedman.
Graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504.
