Willie Harrod Granberry, 92, passed from this earth peacefully, in the presence of family members and a lifelong friend, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 10, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Omen Granberry, Sr., who was the love of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Johnson (Ken), her son Robert Jr. (Janet), and her daughter Carol Willis (Don), her sister Mel Detling and nephew David, her brother William Harrod (Jane), and her brother James Harrod, grandchildren Lisa Shaffer (Jeff), Steve Johnson (Teesha), Rodney Hemby (Kimberly), and Nicole Johnson. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, Cody Richardson, Caileigh Richardson, Micalah McMains, Haley Johnson, Zac Johnson, her step-grandson Steve Gonzales, and many nieces and nephews. Special mention should be made to one special feline, Priscilla, who stole mama’s heart and who is grieving her loss by sleeping on her “mama’s” pillow at night. Mrs. Granberry was a faithful wife and mother who felt the home and family was a calling the Lord had blessed her with. She followed her husband with his military career until he retired in Pensacola where they made their permanent home. When he passed, she became the matriarch and rock of the family. Her one desire was that her family love one another so she could go in peace. She left this earth in the arms of angels to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Robert O. Granberry (Bob to her), and to be with the Lord forever. We, her family, are grieving the loss deeply, but this is for ourselves that we grieve. She is where she wanted to be and we will see her again one day. Arrangements have been made through Oak Lawn Funeral Home on New Warrington Road. The viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 on Wednesday morning, October 15, 2014, services from 10:30 to 11:30 with Charles Myer, Jr. Ph.D officiating. Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:45. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Safe Harbor and/or the Warrington Church of Christ, 403 North Navy Boulevard, Pensacola, Florida 32507, (850) 455-5426, in the honor of Willie Granberry.
