Zelda Arlene Bowman (90) of Pensacola, FL, passed away on February 2, 2018. She was born on November 12, 1927, in Newell, West Virginia, where she grew up with her sister, Norma Mae Przybylowicz, and her brother, Donald Elsworth Bailey.
Zelda graduated from Wells High School in Newell, WV, and went on to join the Army Cadet Nursing Program in Wheeling, WV, at Ohio Valley General Hospital. Since the war ended, she never got the chance to serve, however, she did meet a handsome Marine who was recuperating from injuries sustained at Guadalcanal. She later married this Marine, George Marshall Bowman,on July 3, 1949.
Zelda was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George Bowman; her parents; her sister Norma Przybylowicz; her brother Donald Bailey; and her nephew Donald Przybylowicz.
Zelda is survived by two loving daughters, Terri Bowman Flynn and Pambi Lee Bowman, both of Pensacola, FL; three granddaughters, Heather Whitney, and spouse Eric Whitney, of Boston, MA; Kathryn Kennedy, and spouse Jeff Kennedy, of Pace, FL; and Ami Delgado-Perez, and spouse Jessica Delgado-Perez, of Pensacola, FL.
Zelda is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Riley, Nate, and Amanda Kennedy of Pace, FL; and Daniel and Harrison Whitney, of Boston, MA; and sister-in-law, Peggy Bailey, brother-in-law Felix Przybylowicz, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Zelda was an integral part of the building of Baptist Hospital as Director of the Operating Room for 35 years. She will be missed by her colleagues from CSR Personnel R.N.s and doctors.
Zelda was a devoted member of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church and loved attending her Adult Bible Class. She looked forward to the cards and phone calls from the loving people in this class that she so cherished.
Zelda would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice, especially Dr. Sullivan; nurses Cheryl and Jeanette; social worker, Crystal, aide Sheila, and Chaplain Jason. Her end of life was filled with the most caring individuals.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 8, 2018, at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. Reverend Riley Richardson will officiate the service beginning at 11 a.m. The family invites you to a luncheon after the service in the Fellowship Hall until 1 p.m. Afterwards, those who wish may attend the committal service at Barrancas National Cemetery.
